Today was my last day teaching at Hokowhitu School as I am leaving to take up a teaching position at Russell Street School in Palmerston North. I have enjoyed my year and a half at Hokowhitu and will leave with lots of happy memories. I will always remember fondly my two classes ‘Fab4′ and ‘Network Nine’ and will cherish winning ‘The Fair Go Ad Awards’ last year. Another happy memory was getting ‘Runner Up’ in New Zealand Blog of the Year. The Blog has been a revelation and has been a integral part of our classroom. Unfortunately this is my last ever post and the Blog will eventually be pulled down. Anyway I thank everyone for their support over the last couple of years. It has been a fun ride and I’m excited about what lies ahead! Here is a little movie looking back over my time at Hokowhitu. This afternoon Network Nine dug up the Time Capsule that they burried in Week 1 of Term 1. It took a little while to find it but eventually it revealed itself. In our Time Capsule were letters we wrote to ourselves about what we thought the year would be like and a few lollies. Here is a photo, check it out! Here is some video footage from Thursday’s CO2 Race Day.We have had an awesome time making our cars and Race Day was the icing on the Cake! Here is the little movie I played in Assembly last week to promote the Tui Team Teacher Race.Over the last couple of days we have been racing our CO2 cars at Hokowhitu School. It was awesome fun!!! Who designed the fastest car? Well the overall winner went to Leanne from Room 11. Who won the teacher race?? You guessed it, Mr B’s Cobra came out on top! It has been a great couple of days and there will be some video footage to come soon. Yesterday Network Nine presented assembly with a Racing Car theme. The presenters sat in Go-Carts and did a great job. Mr B made a funny little movie about the Tui Team CO2 Teacher Race today. It was hilarious and nearly brought the house down. Unfortunately he can’t put it on the Blog because of Copyright laws. Here is a photo of the presenters. Wow, what a result!! The All Whites drew 1-1 with Slovakia in their opening game of the Football World Cup. Winston Reid scored the equaliser in injury time to give us our first ever world cup points. Way to go boys, the All Whites rock! Check out our finished CO2 Racing Cars! We have worked really hard on these and finally finished them on Friday. All that is left to do is now race them! I wonder who has designed the fastest car?Ahoy there! Now we are out in the Caribbean Sea, no pirates here. They have all gone to Somalia. One interesting thing I found out is that when we are in a port we fly 2 flags. The one at the back of the ship is the Monrovian flag, becuase our ship is registered there. The other flag is flown from above the ship’s bridge. It is the flag of the country we are visiting i.e. Panama Questions. Check out this great view we have from our classroom windows. Mr B only has 7 school days left before he heads off to his new job at Russell Street School. In my final week I have all sorts of cool things planned. We have got our CO2 Race Day, Skype Capital Challenge with Auroa School, Class Auction and we also have to dig up our Time Capsule. Lets make it a week to remember! Today we were lucky enough to have Amy-Mae’s Mum and Dad come into class as Mystery Readers. They taught us all about their home town of Nottingham and took turns at reading a book about Robin Hood. Amy’s dad showed us his Nottingham Forrest Football Jersey and children answering questions received Robin Hood Key rings. How cool is that!! Thanks you so much for giving up your time to come in, we loved learning all about Nottingham! This Friday, June 11th, South Africa will step onto the world stage as host nation of the 2010 FIFA World Cup as the international soccer tournament begins – welcoming 32 teams from around the world. South Africa was selected as the host six years ago, and has been preparing ever since, building five new stadiums, upgrading five existing stadiums, and building up public transportation, including a new rapid transit railway. Over the past weeks, the teams and their legions of fans have begun arriving while final preparations are made and and dress rehearsals held for the Opening Ceremony on Friday. The tournament takes place over a month, ending on July 11th. Collected here are recent scenes from South Africa as it readies itself to welcome the world. |
