Here are two photos taken from News Time in Network Nine. On the left we have a photo of Chassis and her Maori Carvings that her father made. On the right Jewel is holding up a picture drawn by an artist of her Nana. I love news time as you get to practice your speaking skills and learn lots of different things about the students! Today we started painting our CO2 Racing Cars. We need to put on 3 layers of paint to make sure the colour comes out.Everyone is doing a great job and we should be finished them on Friday! On Friday is the start of the Football World Cup in South Africa. Mr B is a huge Football fan so he thought we would do a few things in class to learn about the biggest sporting event on the planet. Today is class we talked all about the 32 countries that have qualified and are excited that New Zealand made it through. We also did a random draw and gave everyone a country to support during the Football World Cup. I draw the United States Of America. Below is a great little calendar with all the important things you need to know about the tournament. I also put on a little video we watched on U-Tube. It’s going to be a great month of action and drama and I can’t wait for it to start! Yesterday Network Nine received another e-mail from Mary’s Granny Ianthe who is travelling on a Cargo Ship to Europe. She just passed over the Equator and is heading past the Galapagos Islands. She reckons she will be heading through the Panama Canal tomorrow. We have been tracking her journey and love getting e-mails from her ship. Her ship is called Hansa Bremen and there is a picture of it below. I wonder how long it will take to get through the Panama Canal? Over the last couple of days Network Nine has been working hard on shaping and sanding their CO2 Cars. Check it out! Here is a great little game to help you learn your capitals. Just click on the picture and play Capitals Level 2.Today Network Nine had their fourth Mystery Reader for the year. We were lucky enough to have Jewel’s Mum Michelle come and read ‘One More Story’.Thanks Michelle, it was a great story and we appreciate you giving up your time to come and read to us!Today we started making our CO2 Racing Cars as part of our Forces Unit. We have been learning all about different forces and are now going to build a fast racing car using the knowledge we have. The whole Tui Team are making the cars and in the next couple of weeks we will have a Tui Team Race Day to find out who has the fastest car. I can’t wait for that! Mary’s Granny is currently on a Cargo boat heading towards Europe and yesterday she sent us an e-mail letting us know how she is getting on. Her trip is going well and she is somewhere in the Pacific Ocean. She hasn’t seen land or any other boats for ages and reckons they will be moving through the Panama Canal in a few days. The Panama Canal was opened in 1914 and replaces the long and treacherous route around Cape Horn. The Canal is one of the most difficult engineering projects ever undertaken and over 30,000 people died making it. Below is a picture showing the route her boat is taking. Here is the latest from the cool website Learn Something Every Day. I thought you might like this one!Today Miss Yeo (R9’s old teacher) came into Network Nine to say goodbye before she flies off on her world trip. She is going to America to work in a summer camp then on to England to teach. Miss Yeo has been a fun teacher at Hokowhitu School and we wish her all the best on her travels! Here are our Blog Stats for the month of May. We averaged over 100 Hits a day and clocked up over 3,000 visits.Congratulations team, that is the best stats so far and shows there is definitely a real audience out there!Today we learnt all about Friction as part of our Forces Unit.We decided to put friction into place by going out and having a good old fashion Tug of War.It was lots of fun, check it out!Check it out, we have reached 23,000 Blog Hits for the year! Awesome work team, I wonder if we can reach 25,000 Blog Hits before Mr B leaves? |
